The Challenge
The Cultural Promotion Department in the canton of Basel-Landschaft was engaged in a strategic process and sought an identity-building measure to report on its activities. The goal was to provide both employees and an external audience with an overview of the department's areas of activity. A workshop process was to lead the organization to further clarify and refine its identity.
The Outcome
Considering the corporate branding colors red and gray, visual elements were assigned to the five areas of activity of the Cultural Promotion Department. The detailed activities were summarized as text within the respective dots and grouped by proximity to each other. The poster's background color established a connection to activities in the past, present, and future.
The Impact
The visualization was developed through a participatory process over two years. It forms the basic structure that can also be used with other themes. The project demonstrates that visualization should not be included at the end of a strategic process but should serve as a moderation tool to sharpen and clarify strategy early on. Visualization is a problem-solving method for a learning organization.
